Fridays are always a good day for a beach house, don't you think?? I'm loving this Dewey Beach, Delaware waterfront home designed by Echelon Custom Homes and Echelon Interiors. I love the use of the cobalt blue and aqua...not quite as crazy as the Miami apartment we toured the other day! I am just loving up that ceiling too, and the great open floor plan. And you certainly wouldn't hear me complain about some pool time or the fab view either!!

Oh turquoise shutters, you do it to me every time!! This neat photo was snapped by Rachel Halvorson of Nest Egg during a shopping trip down Magazine Street in New Orleans. I've never been, but boy the shopping there looks incredibly enticing!

I love special days and today is certainly one of them! A big birthday shout-out to my dad Dallas who is turning 65 today! Happy Birthday, Dad!!! I love this photo of him from my wedding last spring...so handsome!

The home is actually a warm weather retreat for a couple from the Northeast, so I'm sure they welcome the drama this home provides during a long winter. I just LOVE cobalt blue and turquoise together, such a cool combo. I know this is daring, but would you like it for a vacation home?? (You can just take the view too, that's fine by me!)

Lots of light with white cabinetry, turquoise tiles, and Carrera marble countertops...this is what my favorite kitchens are made of! Cynthia of Meringue Designs doesn't design kitchens for a living (really cool, modern designs for machine embroidery is her business), but with the help of Orem, Utah's Benjamin Blackwelder Cabinetry, she recently remodeled her dark, inefficient kitchen into her dream one. She and her husband Paul lived in their old kitchen for 5 years, figuring out exactly how they wanted their dream space to look–and saving up the money to do it right. What a week! Some of you may remember that last October we put our house on the market. It was really slow-going over the holiday season, but this week we accepted an offer! Negotiations, inspections (and lets be honest, cleaning!) made for a busy week! I was expecting to wait a lot longer since we didn't want to drop the price very much, so we're happy–as much as we can expect to be in this economy at least. Now the fun can really start...house hunting! We couldn't help but start our search a little early and have already seen some really great homes, and are excited to dig a little deeper to see what else is out there! Considering the family of five loves the fall season, Sara used those colors and complemented them with a rich, yummy turquoise. I'm a huge fan of the Celery Kemble for Schumacher Hot House Flowers fabric on the windows; looks so great with the fabric on the sofa and chairs. Speaking of, I love that she used swivel chairs! The family can face the TV when needed, but in their regular position they face the sofa and fireplace for a more balanced, social composition. Smart thinking!! Goodness gracious, I cannot begin to tell you how much I love the office and studio of Katelyn James, an uber-talented (and uber-teal-loving!) wedding photographer based in Richmond, VA. Cottage Modern Nursery

My oh my, is this nursery adorable or what?! Interior designer (and fellow Minneapolis dweller) Kristen of Cottage Modern wanted a bright, fresh space for her brand new baby Tate. She chose the aqua and orange color palette to go along with all the crisp white, with whimsical touches everywhere you look! I love the cute map letters she made, the ottoman pouf from etsy shop aletafae and all of the cute nautical touches (we need more of that in Minnesota!) Last but definitely not least, I am just loving the fab built-ins she painted Sherwin Williams Meander Blue to offset all the bright accessories! (The rest of the room is Restoration Hardware's Pale Silver, above the board and batten paneling.) Be still my heart! Interior designer Gina Viscusi Elson worked with designer Melissa Nierman of the handcrafted cabinetry company Rutt of Los Altos to design this super-cute cottage kitchen. It's such an inspirational space, as most of the kitchens I see in real life are usually around this size. (Though never this stylish!) I love the white cabinets and clean subway tile next to the pretty aqua paint color (Benjamin Moore Kensington Green #710). The colorful Company C rug brings in a whimsical, colorful touch! And I can't get enough of that cute little dog!

Preserving the authenticity of the fifties was the most important part of the renovation of this Boulder, Colorado home built in 1950. The owners–a retired architect and an artist, were inspired by the home’s good bones and classic design. They worked with architect DiAnn Sherk of Boulder Associates to open up the home and bring it up to code. I love what the owner said about the interior: "This home gave us an opportunity to reach back to happy times and the classic design and furnishings we’ve both always respected and enjoyed.” Very cool! The recent holiday edition of Australia's Adore Magazine had me drooling all over the place, it was overflowing with scrumptious color and great design!! I really loved the feature on a vibrant Queensland coastal home designed by the talented designers Hayley Hayes and Tracey Leeson of Porchlight Interiors. I am crazy about holiday decorations that capture the joy and happiness of the season! Is there a better way than with COLOR?! Thanks to photograher Rett Peek, today we are revisiting the beautiful home of Beverly Wells, who worked with her daughter (and our favorite) Tobi Fairley to put a cheerful spin on holiday decor. The garland on the mantel is dazzling, I love all the different ornaments and sea of color! Same goes for the tabletop tree...so adorable! Visit Tobi's blog to read more about this space!

We're talking live trees in the kitchen and dining room, wreaths and a big wooden Santa in the master bedroom and bathroom, and leftover sprigs of evergreen tucked behind paintings everywhere. Keeping things artistic but measured, and fun without being too serious is actually the designer's everyday decorating approach. I'd love to see how his home looks the rest of the year, wouldn't you?? The robin’s egg-blue walls are gorgeous. I especially love it in the kitchen as a backdrop to the dinnerware and bottles. Can't you just tell that Sita Montgomery of The Family Room Design Studio had a ball decorating her Utah home?? The kitchen underwent a huge transformation over the summer. To give the space a fresh and bright feeling, she had the cabinets painted a soft, creamy off-white. I loooove how it turned out! The delightful family room has the same happy vibe of the kitchen...I am loving bursts of fresh color! Although this Kansas City home is smack dab in the middle of the country, JoAnn Romano – lead artist and owner of Architectural Elements, wanted the dining room to have a kind of coastal, beachy feel. The walls are incredible here, I love how JoAnn used both texture and metallics to bring life to the serene Aegean Sea color. She actually said the current trend in faux is color. From Tuscan to contemporary, people are looking to bring in color, freshness and happiness to their homes. I like the sound of that! Sometimes I wish I was little again, if only to have a insanely fun room like this one! Designed by Krista Salmon of Kiki's List for her lucky little girl Lou, the new big girl room displays attention to detail like no other! Virginia artist Corinne Marlowe painted those fab stripes on the ceiling, which match Krista's great paint job on the bed. I love the adorable P. Kaufman "Camelot" fabric on the windows, Benjamin Moore's Bird's Egg on the walls...and no doubt about it, that gorgeous chandelier! At first I thought it was my beloved designed by Marjorie Skouras, but turns out it was custom made by Lindsey of the Etsy shop Simply Salvage, who hand painted over 4,000 beads Bird's Egg to match the walls! Is it orange? Is it red? I don't know, but I LOVE it! Yesterday it was announced that Pantone's 2012 Color of the Year would be Tangerine Tango. This is actually one of my favorite colors (aside from turquoise, the 2010 Color of the Year, we all know that's number one!) I normally don't use it in my home, but a lot of my favorite clothes, accessories, and often times my nails feature this punchy shade. And how can you not love it paired with turquoise?? It gives off such great energy! That's actually why Pantone chose it...they said it provides the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward. Sounds about right to me! What do you guys think? Do you approve?

I always love seeing a space that makes my feminine side swoon with excitement! So was the case when I saw the fabulous living room belonging to my favorite Portuguese designer Ana Antunes. Although her entire home and all of her projects are incredible (I'll be sharing more soon!), I just love the soft pastels, bold patterns and great vignettes in this space. Filled with great light and such pretty color, I really get a peaceful sense from looking at the images. Just imagine living there! Did you see that uber-comfy white sofa?? Can you even handle this?!?! Pretty sure this is the most darling and delightful party I've ever had the pleasure of seeing! Julie of Belle Maison had an awesome post full of Merry and Bright Christmas decor, which included this festive and fun event put together by the insanely talented Tori of Sitting in a Tree Events and captured perfectly by Joielala Photographie out of San Diego. All of the glitter and confetti paired with the hot pink and turquoise makes me deliriously happy! Oh and s'mores...do you know how much I love s'mores?! This is all one big dream come true! "No beige allowed!" declared the owners of this Chicago apartment to interior designer Melanie Elston. More specifically, they wanted their home to be vibrant, cheerful and full of color. I seriously cannot tell you how much I love the chairs upholstered in the always-fab "New Wave" in Capri from Old World Weavers layered with the Kelly Wearstler rug. I hope you all had an great holiday weekend! We are so happy to have Charley home! Boy it was a long drive back from Arizona, but we saw so much and had a lot of fun on the road trip. Happy to report our 4 animals are getting along nicely too! :)

This super cute kitchen in a late 19th-century cottage located in the heart of England was recently renovated by Parlour Farm designer Nick Grunfeld. And when I say renovated, I mean up, down and all around...custom-built from the cabinets to the handles. I love that they have all the modern amenities and tons of work area, but the room still has an original feel to it. And of course, the darling blue cabinetry! Guest Blogger: Erin from The Impatient Gardener

Hi everybody! I'm Erin, but not the Erin you're used to seeing here. I'm Erin from The Impatient Gardener and I'm thrilled to be guest blogging on House of Turquoise today.

Erin (the other one) does such a wonderful job posting inspirational spaces featuring one of my favorite colors so it's no surprise that the spaces I saw here on House of Turquoise influenced many of the rooms in our house, which underwent a pretty substantial renovation last year. You can read about the renovation here, but it can be more or less summed up by saying that our goal was not to make our house bigger, just better. We had the top of half the house (an old Cape Cod-ish cottage located about 500 feet from the shore of Lake Michigan in southeastern Wisconsin) taken off and put back on higher, allowing us to add much more usable space, including a second bathroom.

Turquoise and blue (along with a healthy dose of gray) featured prominently in many of the rooms.

The bathroom was the most fun to decorate and we went all out because it will probably be the only bathroom we'll ever design. It's a relatively small bathroom—8 feet square—but we fit in a sizable shower, vanity and lots of storage.

The master bedroom stayed basically the same size as before the renovation, but it feels twice as big thanks to the addition of windows on the east wall and a high ceiling.

In the hallway I made a small gallery wall. It's really the only place we display family photos so we have everything from a wedding photo, to pictures of our dogs and cat to a great black and white photo of my grandmother. At the bottom is a board we uncovered when we took the roof off that says, "Put here July 11, 1938." I put it in a shadow box with some linen fabric on the back. I also hung a piece of driftwood that I've been hanging onto for awhile just because I thought it was interesting looking. I collected a variety of frames for the wall and painted several of them different shades of blue mixed from paint I had laying around.

For those of you who don't know me, my blog journals our DIY projects, home improvement and decorating as time and money allow. We also feature other bloggers and their DIY. I recently gave our guest bedroom makeover using paint, things we already had and thrift store, flea market finds. Inspiration:

The room before was a blank slate. We removed previous owners' carpet when we moved in, I removed the trim, walls were a dingy white....

My starting point for the room were the orange/gold wingback chairs. I thought about redoing them because I wanted a turquoise and white room but as I collected ideas for the room, using things we already had and did up a mood board, I decided I really loved the turquoise, orange, gold together.

I painted and stenciled the floor (budget friendly)...main floor color True Value 'Ticker Tape'.

Nearly everything else in the room is a thrifty find (with the exception of these lamp shades and bedding shown below).

Turquoise lamps were $4.99 at thrift store.

Even the chandelier got a makeover going from black to a turquoise patina...

I made a brooch wreath...

...for my mismatched gallery wall...

A free scratched up buffet got a makeover and became a dresser...

Painting Furniture

I even made a coordinating cat window seat using an old tray and made catnip stuffed toys with turquoise fabric scraps...

Charm Home

I am loving up this cozy bedroom designed by Cristi Holcombe of Charm Home based out of Atlanta. The natural materials, vintage elements and pretty colors are what do it for me here. I just love the the weathered wood on the chest and quatrefoil mirror, the fabulous upholstered headboard, not to mention the burst of color from the pillows and bedskirt! Rustic chic...I'll take it! Chris and I are headed out of town this afternoon to pick up our dog Charley down in Arizona! We're flying down (via Vegas, baby!) then driving back...28 hrs! It's kind of a weird way to spend Thanksgiving but we're super excited! Charley has been living with his breeder since April doing the show/breeding thing (he's very handsome!) and we've really missed him–Chris especially, who has had him since before we met. Is there anything sweeter than a reunion with an animal?? I get all teary just thinking about it!

Someone had better alert our cats and Gertie that he's on his way home though...!

Something's Gotta Give...West Coast style! Belclaire House featured this incredible beach home located along the La Jolla coastline in California, filled with a yummy blue and white color scheme, fabulous outdoor areas and breathtaking views. The meticulously maintained home was actually built in the 1930's but has since been beautifully renovated. How insane is that master bedroom?? Those views...I swear I can smell the ocean right now. The master bathroom is exactly what I'd choose for myself, I love all the Carrara marble and soaking tub. Same goes for the outdoor areas, exactly what I want in my dream home! Looks like this 3,858 sq ft home recently sold for the teensy-weensy sum of around $4,000,000, but you can still see the real estate info here! (And to the new owner: let me know when you move in...we can have a party!)

Life in Grace

I'm sure many of you have spent a fair amount of time drooling over this adorable room! As you may know, Edie of of the blog Life in Grace lost her entire home and furnishings in a house fire last December. Her family has since rebuilt, and their new home is absolutely incredible...so full of joy and life! Edie's daughters' room above that she designed with Darlene of Fieldstone Hill Design is my favorite I think, the colors and fabrics are so up my alley. I just love those Painted Vintage Jane Iron Beds in (antique brass) all dolled up in my favorite Serena and Lily bedding. I also adore the turquoise chest, which Edie says is the most wonderful dresser in the world. They actually built that little nook between their closets just for it! And of course, we can't forget to mention the pretty wall color...one of my favorites actually, Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams. I can tell there is a lot of passion behind The Wills Company, a design/build, remodeling and handyman company out of Nashville, TN. They worked with Robin Patton of Patton Interiors to create the most sophisticated, modern, farmhouse-style kitchen I've ever seen. I don't know what I love more...the gorgeous table surrounded by the fabulous chairs and bench, or that incredible turquoise sectional. Truly a dream space that I'm sure the owners cherish every day! Dream bath alert! Designed by Melanie Davis of Davis Design out of Atlanta, this peaceful haven has everything I'd ever want in a bath. All of the white carrara marble is downright droolworthy. The symmetry in the bath nook is great too, I love the cabinets with the mirrors...beautiful and functional! (Lots of bath storage is a must for me!) And of course the dreamy color on the walls. You know what I love? Homes that don't take themselves too seriously; ones full of color, life and laughter! That's exactly the feeling I get from these photos taken by Annie Schlechter for Coastal Living. The home was designed by Dana Small, who infused their waterfront home in Stuart, Florida with cheerful, bright, beachy colors. She actually studied color therapy in design school and learned how it can hinder or help productivity. Imagine all that gets done in this home! I adore all the texture and natural elements in the living room, all so pretty. And hello there, dining room! The collection of colorful recycled frames really stands out on that vivid green background. Lastly, the kids spaces are loads of fun. Love Benjamin Moore's Tropicana Cabana on the walls of the playroom! A lot of the furnishings in the home were sourced through Dana's design and gifts boutique in Stuart, Florida called Matilda's. Definitely looks like a place I'll need to check out if I'm ever in the area!

With a tranquil aqua background and modern, colorful vibe, this chic nursery designed by Niki Kantor Rubin is filled to the brim with inspiration! Niki is actually the owner of Papery & Cakery (how cute is that name?), a stationery studio and blog out of Boca Raton, Florida. But more importantly she is also the new mom to twins Raya and Mason!! She set out to design the nursery in her favorite color (turquoise!) while keeping it as gender neutral as possible. I can't get over the results! Her favorite thing in the whole nursery are the fantastic portraits of the cuties taken by photographer Shelley Armenio, who also shot these great pics. I couldn't agree more! But really there are so many details to love here, like the Jonathan Adler pear mirror representing their "pair" of babies, the giant scrabble letters and adorable whale tissue holder from Etsy and the awesome graphic art above the changing table and in the bathroom that Niki designed and printed herself. Thomasville? Who woulda thunk it! So fun, fresh and colorful, just not what I was expecting from the company that has been around for over 100 years. Turns out they have evolved with the times and kept up with all the current trends. Thomasville was actually one of the names I was familiar with before hitting up High Point Market...I mean who hasn't heard of them? What I didn't realize was the level of customization they offer. You can choose from hundreds of great fabric to cover their upholstered pieces, or even use your own. All this by going in their retail stores...no designer needed! I couldn't get enough of their Reinventions line and it's (historically authentic!) warehouse vibe. And how about their new Calgary sofa pictured above...love the teal leather combined with that fab ikat!! One more thing...I totally had no idea they sold their own accessories...very cool wall art, bedding, lamps, all sorts of stuff you guys would love. What a learning experience....and oh so fun! Have I told you I LOVED High Point Market? :)

When I look at these images from the portfolio of Los Angeles-based designer Kristen Panitch, I don't see some of the cutest rooms ever, I see life. The kids rooms feel so magical, so real and happy! Even the living areas are so kid-friendly, I can just see the families enjoying every inch of these rooms. The colors, the patterns, the layers, the lighting, the fabrics, the toys and crayons...I just love all of it. One of my favorite rooms of all time, folks. Miles Redd. Domino. Enough said. I can't even imagine the space without that fabulous Chinoiserie wallpaper. In fact I'm pretty sure it was this image that sparked my obsession with birds in decor. Birds aside, Miles Redd did an incredible job mixing style, pattern and color here. Love all turquoise, on the curtains, the stools and the lamps. In fact I never met a turquoise lamp I didn't like!

What a way to wrap up the week! Nicki recently finished enclosing her Florida porch into a sunroom (office, playroom, den) and I cannot get over how perfect it is (or how adorable her daughter is!) I just love how she took Urban Outfitter's ruffle shower curtain and stretched it around a blank canvas. Brilliant! The wall color is utterly perfect here too...it was a custom match (the label says CLRNT = 384th, B=76, C = 27, D = 124, if that means anything to you guys). Love the pillows...floral one made from Kravet Jellybean from Etsy shop LilyOnBlue and the green one featuring Schumacher's Betwixt in Water/Ivory made by LabDesigns on Etsy. The cute striped one is from TJ Maxx. (Nicki generously supplied me with a ton of sources, so if you are wondering about anything else, just ask away!)

Lane Venture

One of the things I'd love for our new home to have is a fabulous outdoor space. Thoughts of dining al fresco make me so happy! I couldn't help but daydream when I toured the showroom belonging to Lane Venture. I've admitted it before on here that I'm not a fan of wicker furniture...but what I saw completely changed my mind. I loved the smooth, modern silhouettes of their pieces. But my favorite thing was the HUGE selection of all-weather fabrics. And I must be living under a rock, but I had no idea there was slipcovered outdoor furniture (I adore slipcovers). The Elena Tub Dining Chairs were so "me"!

Ooh and you have to check out this non-turquoise stuff below...who knew outdoor furniture could be so cool??? (AND also available in many great turquoise fabrics!)

LOVED this party perfect Metropolitan Sofa above...sitting on the arms and back is no longer a no-no!

And seriously, how cool are these?? Pretty sure you'd be the only person on the block with one!

Imagine the delight in discovering the Karen Robertson Collection at High Point Market! Seeing these breathtaking display of treasures immediately took my breath away. Talk about sophisticated, chic beachy art. The hand-tinted sea fans suspended in glass are incredible in person. Well really all of it is...I could have lingered for hours! Don't you love the fabric here? It's all from Karen's new fabric line available in the spring featuring nautical patterns and fabulous colors. Learn more about Karen's nature inspired designs here. Welcome to the wonderful world that is High Point Market! This set of photos I took was from my favorite space in the Drexel Heritage showroom. I seriously wanted to plunk down and call it home. Isn't the fresh mix of patterns and colors fantastic?? Drexel Heritage was actually one of the companies that sponsored my trip out there, so we got a really great tour of their fabulously styled showroom. (And I mean fab-u-lous!) I was not familiar with them beforehand, so I was like a sponge taking it all in. They are all about personalization, offering their customers a ton of great options with fabric, finishes and hardware. Take that gorgeous Stewart Poster Bed for example...it's available in 23 finishes, including two very pretty turquoisey ones! I don't know about you, but I'll take this room "as is"! I can't wait to show you more!

Fresh and unexpected, that's precisely why I love these rooms designed by Denise Fogarty and photographed by Alise O'Brien! It's really no wonder why Denise was named one of the seven of St. Louis' top designers. I know we're all fans of white kitchens these days (I'm downright obsessed), but aren't they ten times yummier when paired with blue walls? I love the little computer area too, although I know I'd spend way more time there than actually cooking! The living area has so many great details, with a nod to the beach that I adore. And hello there fab-u-lous dining room! The coral artwork pops on that vibrant green, and I love how the gorgeous upholstered chairs just pull everything together so perfectly. I immediately fell madly in love with this space when I saw it on Material Girls! Emily Johnston of EJ Interiors designed this fabulous vignette for Dwell with Dignity’s new Thrift Studio store that recently opened in Dallas. I cannot get over the color scheme here...the bold orange and turquoise color scheme is so fun, but the space feels totally chic. Love the striped fabric on the chairs! I'm back from North Carolina! What a cool experience that was. Just to fill you in, High Point Market is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world. Can you say heaven? I'm talking more than 2,000 exhibitors, in over 180 buildings, covering 10 million square feet of showspace! My most comfiest shoes and I only covered a small portion of that during my short stint, but I tried my best to cover the turquoise scene. And boy was there a scene...it was everywhere! (Yay for us!) I need to sort through my many photos and get things organized, but soon enough I'll be sharing some really cool stuff with you!

Hi, I'm Crystal, from The Weekend Homemaker, and I am delighted to be a guest blogger today at House of Turquoise (somebody pinch me!) Erin asked me to share my new home office and I'm really excited to give you the low down on how I turned a rarely used (and poorly decorated) dining room into a space that me and my husband use every day.

We're a family of four living in a smidge less than 2,000 square foot home, meaning space is at a premium. I calculated that in the last two years, our dining room was used maybe three times. In the meantime, my husband and I were taking turns sharing a desk. Hmmm, what's not right about that picture? We finally decided to give up the notion that we were formal dining room kinda people and make use of a great space.

I got busy selling our old dining chairs, desk, desk chair and some bookcases to build up a new office fund. Then, scouring Craigslist, Ikea, Overstock.com, Walmart, and even my own house, I was able to create a great work space for both me and my husband for only an extra $105 out of pocket (in addition to the $740 we made selling our old stuff).

There are so many things I like about this space, I can't choose just one. The curtain fabric was the first thing I bought. I originally had something else in mind but saw this fabric on Young House Love (http://www.younghouselove.com/2011/06/my-babies/) and really loved it.

I was even more thrilled when my go-to paint guy chose Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue as the perfect complement. I can't tell you how much I love this color. The Palladian Blue paired with the crisp white trim really sets the mood for the space and is a great backdrop for the stark white desks and chairs.

I couldn't be happier with how this room turned out and that it is no longer wasted space. And of course my husband loves that we were able to do it for less than $105 (+ the proceeds from the sale of our old stuff).

Turquoise glazes first began in China during the Song Dynasty (960-1127). And while at first their color was softer, they soon developed a deeper aqua tone. By the early 1500s trade and war booty had brought Chinese turquoise pottery to the Islamic courts in Turkey, where they loved the shade, and they began to add it to their famous dark blue and white ceramics and tiles. Europe was soon also clamoring for the vibrant Chinese pieces and many were made especially for export to the French market. Once in France, they were often fitted with gilt brass mounts - I love the contrast between the organic shaped pottery and the intricate bases! So in short, a craze for all things turquoise is actually quite historic!

A pair of Chinese turquoise glazed hexagonal vases, late Ming/early Qing dynasty. Such a beautiful crackled glaze on these.

An Iznik blue, white, and turquoise tile, Turkey, circa 1530 - see that bold bit of turquoise working its way in!

Chinese turquoise porcelain bowls (1662-1722) with French gilt mounts added in the 19th century - they are so glam and I love the color and turquoise color combo.

High Point Market

I couldn't be happier that it's finally Friday! After not feeling well most of the week, I finally have my energy back and am feeling good. Our house is now officially on the market and with most of the projects completed, it's never looked as nice! And to top things off, this weekend I am headed to High Point Market in North Carolina. I'm not a designer (just a big fan of this sort of thing), so I was super excited when I received an invitation to attend this fall. I can't wait to see all the new products out there and gain a ton of inspiration from the showrooms. Are any of you going? Any tips for this first timer? Coastal Living's Ultimate Beach House - Part 2

Even if we ignored the fantastic view of ocean, this tranquil bedroom definitely holds dream status for sure. Today we're visiting the master bedroom Coastal Living's Ultimate Beach House designed by Phoebe Howard and photographed by Tria Giovan. The thing I love most is how the entire space is saturated with the same soothing, watery hue. The Phillip Jeffries grasscloth on the walls is the perfect backdrop for the antique nautical maps, and that beautiful coral mirror. And I LOVE the cozy corner window seat covered in pretty pillows! Coastal Living's Ultimate Beach House - Part 1

I've been devouring Tria Giovan's heavenly photos of Coastal Living's Ultimate Beach House designed by Phoebe Howard over breakfast for the last few weeks and each morning I discover fantastic new details! It was insta-love with the blue subway tile in the kitchen, but I think it's great how they chose fumed oak cabinets for the bottom and white painted cabinets for the top. The living room and dining are straight up coastal cool with the crisp navy and white stripes against the calm backdrop of Pratt and Lambert's Hesperia on the walls. I love how she used banquettes instead of chairs too! And how about that fab paddle mirror?!? I have no idea where it's from, but I saw a similar aqua one when we were in Nantucket in a cute shop called Anderson's Fine Gifts. Anyone have any idea where else you can get one??

Much more versatile than you may think, blue is truly a classic color. It has universal appeal, never goes out of style, and is overwhelmingly chosen as a color favorite across North America. It evokes the sea and sky, physically calms us, and symbolizes trust and commitment.
Because of the influence that blue has in our world today, we have chosen Wythe Blue (HC-143) as Benjamin Moore's 2012 Color of the Year. It's a beautiful, calming hue that has an element of heritage and offers grounding rootedness, providing comfort and stability.

Lets hear it for Wythe Blue! I've long loved the color (see my other post here) and I know that a lot of you have used it (and love it!) in your own homes, so I was excited to read the news from the paint experts over at Hirshfield's Color Club. They shared the 2012 trend colors in a bunch of great room sets...it's crazy how much paint can change the look of a room! Needless to say, I couldn't agree more with Benjamin Moore's choice for Color of the Year. I am also loving their inspiring Earth & Sky color palette that incorporates the color so beautifully! Tuckered Out

So of course the one weekend we had sooo much to do, I get sick and end up having to be in bed the whole time. You should see all the projects Chris completed though...he really made a dent in the ol' list! Major thanks to my BFF Claire (she sure can rock a paintbrush) and my dad who was over a bunch last week helping us out (he has the right tool for everything)!

Seriously though, you guys know the children's book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie?? That's all I can think of as we complete each project, getting our house ready to sell. You make one improvement, then you see another you should do, which makes something else look glaringly outdated...it never ends! I'm just exhausted thinking about it! So, I think I'll just go back to bed. (Ours not nearly glamorous as this one designed by Betsy Burnham and featured in Lonny.)

Colorful Bedroom Makeover

SO much fun color!! It would be hard not to wake up happy in this bedroom featured in BHG. I love that they brought in that storage chest to use as a cozy window bench...you can never have too many cute, colorful pillows! The window coverings here are great too. I love how they layered the bamboo blinds with the orange panels. Head over to BHG for more photos, including before shots too!

We have a lot on our plate this weekend. We are getting ready to put our house on the market (eek!) so there's lots of projects and major de-cluttering going down around our house! Once things are looking good around here, I'll share some photos with you guys! Have a fantastic weekend! :)

I absolutely adore this fresh country kitchen designed by Nicola Manganello of Nicola’s Homes! The butter-yellow cabinetry and exposed ceiling beams make it feel so cozy, not to mention the blue sky overhead! I love how the island incorporates the bench seat, such great use of space. And I can't get over the fab chandelier and range hood! The bedroom is just as cozy...love the peaceful palette and comfy furnishings! The shower is pretty sweet too! Seriously, much to love! Have you ever found something and known immediately that you had to have it, no matter what? That's what happened to the owners of this bathroom photographed by Brent Darby and featured in Period Living when they discovered the incredible cast-iron Victorian canopy bath at a salvage yard. Despite the fact that its price tag was higher than their entire bathroom renovation budget, its large size created a bunch of layout issues, the floor joists had to be reinforced to take the extra weight, new plumbing had to be installed, in addition to the trouble of getting it inside the house with a forklift...they were determined to have it. I think it was all worth it! I love all the finishing touches, especially the delightful cabinet with the butterflies!

What a kitchen! The owner of this penthouse in downtown Detroit featured in Detroit Home and photographed by Beth Singer wanted a kitchen that didn't look like a kitchen. Gary Fried of MDG Design created the space with interior designer Roxane Whitter Thomas to be party-ready. (Why else would you need two subzero fridges flanking a bar with a 50in tv overhead?!) That's a pretty cool granite countertop, and I'm loving the dark mahogany cabinets and mirror details. I bet the view isn't anything to complain about either!

Wouldn't you love the chance to redecorate your old childhood bedroom? I know I would! Designer Allison Egan recently had that very opportunity in Seattle. It's hard to imagine, but the serene space was previously decked out in pink and yellow...very 80's! I love the soothing neutral scheme now updated with the dash of blue. The pillows she chose are all so great, and affordable too! The back silk pillows are from Target, and the front pair decked out in Lovely Lattice by Waverly in Aqua are from Etsy. Vacation Recap! (Long One!)

I know that was a ton of photos, in one VERY large image...my apologies if it forever to load! If there's one thing I'm good at, it's taking photos on vacation. "Hold on, I need to take a picture!" (right, Chris?) I hope the collage gave you a sampling of our short vacation out to the coast of Massachusetts! I'll try to recap to the best of my memory, so if any of you ever have the absolute pleasure of getting out that way you'll know what not to miss!

Thursday: Flight delays and lost luggage....but we successfully arrived in Providence late at night.

Friday (my birthday): Hit up the Bourne Scallop Festival in Buzzards Bay. Yum! Checked into the SeaCoast Inn in Hyannis, absolutely highly recommended. The owners were super duper nice and incredibly helpful, and our room was cute! Toured beloved Chatham, drooled over the incredible dream houses, then went up to Orleans and did more of the same. We ended up eating one fantastic dinner (complete with candle-topped cupcake) at Chatham Squire Restaurant. Oh and stopped for some fudge and candy at the Chatham Candy Manor. Yum!

Saturday (our anniversary): Drove to Woods Hole and took the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Rented a car (jeeps were sold out!) so we could see more of the island (more houses!). Ate a fab lunch at Among The Flowers Cafe in Edgartown. Stopped in fun shops and walked the streets, couldn't help but imagine we were a fisherman family back in the day! Drove all around the island...highlights being Gay Head, the adorable Victorian gingerbread cottages in Oak Bluffs, and the stone walls of the picturesque Chilmark countryside (that was our fav). Back to Edgartown where we ate dinner overlooking the harbor at the Seafood Shanty. Walked the quiet streets, at some delicious Mad Martha ice cream, then back to Hyannis all pooped out!

Sunday: Walked to the ferry station and took the high-speed (1 hr) ferry to Nantucket. I couldn't even handle how pretty everything was as we were coming in! Walked the cobblestone streets, visited some cute shops (awesome decor shops there!) and ate a late breakfast at Black-Eyed Susan's. Best pancakes ever! We decided to rent a moped so we could see more of the island (more houses!). It was such a good time. Made our way to Cisco Beach and watched the surfers, then over to our favorite part of the island: Sconset. The cutest little rose-covered shingled cottages I could ever have imagined, super fabulous shingled homes on the bluffs overlooking the ocean, the quaintest, cutest little village....I'm surprised we even managed leave. Made our way back to the town of Nantucket, returned the moped, walked around some more, then ate dinner at The Brotherhood of Thieves. Best chowder we've ever tasted! Super tired and with sore feet (shouldn't have worn my new flats), we then took the last ferry back to Hyannis.

Monday: Finally slept in, then took a leisurely drive to Newport, RI where we took in the impressive Newport Mansions. Insane stuff. Then spent our remaining time by the water taking in the incredible views of the Atlantic, not knowing when we'd see it next!

Phew! If you're still reading along, bless your hearts! :) I've wanted to see this area for as long as I can remember, and it was so much more than I imagined...I'm still so excited about it (if you can't tell.) Anyway, thanks for reading along and again for all your recommendations. We know it wouldn't have been such an amazing trip without all of your great suggestions! Lesli DeVito of the blog My Old Country House and I are totally on the same wavelength. We are all about the turquoise and pink. Turquoise or pink in the form of a fab chevron print?? We'll take it! Recently Lesli reupholstered her old sofa in the the prettiest aqua zig zag fabric (for less than $7.50 a yard!) I LOOOOVE the results...it totally makes the space! I was sure that was enough joy for one room, but then Lesli scored (among other things) that yummy pink Missoni pouf ottoman from Target. (I copied her and bought 0ne in aqua after she said how amazing it is in real life.) Don't you absolutely adore her pink cabinet too??? That's insta-smile material! You guys definitely need to head to Lesli's blog...it's filled with so much inspiration you'll be followers in no time. Oh and talk about happy, let me introduce you to Lesli's awesome paintings! I don't feel like we see this look enough! More mountain homes need to incorporate pretty turquoise hues, don't you think? The soothing color palette in the living room designed by Suzanne Kasler for the 2010 Cashiers Designer Showhouse is the perfect juxtaposition to the more rustic space. I love the stacked-stone fireplace, ivory furniture and layered rugs! Lynn Monday designed the dreamy sitting room in the home. It's Mad Men...with a twist! I love how designer Chris Barrett used the same vibrant complementary colors throughout this entire Manhattan Beach home for a cohesive look that's fun and inviting. Ever since our vacation out east, I'm (more so than usual) obsessed with the houses there. Glimpses of the interiors are so much more gratifying now! I am loving this vibrant Nantucket pool house designed by Wendy Valliere of Seldom Scene Interiors. All the breezy turquoise (love those stripes!) and fresh green would make for a great place to escape and simply have fun! I can't begin to tell you how much I love this Watercolor, Florida vacation home photographed by Brian Bieder belonging to Mandy Mayers. Together with Jessica Roan, her friend and business partner in their Atlanta home furnishings shop, Interior Philosophy, the pair lifted colors from the surrounding coastal area when designing the space. It's beachy, but not in the conventional way we're used to seeing on here. Normally I like a lot of color, but there's so much depth here from the mix of textures combined with all the layers of natural elements. I'm Back!

What a dream the last few days were. Our trip to Mass. was fantastic! We were so surprised how big Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket were. Oh my goodness, the countryside!! That's what surprised us the most. Of course it was cute house overload, everywhere you looked were the most darling shingled-style homes. I told Chris, this is like Pinterest, in real life!

I have a lot to catch up on and have to run to pick up Gertie from the dog-sitter, so I'm just going to leave you with these teaser photos I took on Cape Code in Chatham.

Chatham...talk about THE perfect place to spend my birthday!! *sigh*
