Honeymoon??

Right now it's -10 degrees outside here in Minneapolis (but feels like -30). And this weekend we experienced a record-breaking blizzard.....with over 17 inches of new snow. Fun. Stuck inside, we couldn't help but daydream about our upcoming honeymoon in April. We haven't decided on a destination yet. The only requirement: turquoise water. (Shocking, right?) How absolutely fabulous would it be to stay in the Maldives, at the exquisite Anantara Veli Resort & Spa?! My goodness.

I'm dying to ask you guys...where have you been with dazzling turquoise water?? I'd love your two cents!

St. Croix! The Buccaneer Hotel (a former sugar plantation) has beautiful turquoise water, wonderful food, and the most charming high end bungalows. Some of the best views I've ever seen!

Hope this helps :)

We honeymooned in Kauii - breathtaking! The island is so small that you can drive around it. Great hiking through rainforests to unexplored beaches. It's been 12 years and I need to go back.

(Maybe the resort in the Maldives will have you as a guest if you blog??)

We spent our honeymoon in St. Lucia, we didn't care for it. The entire time we were there we kept saying 'wish we were in Maui'. That is our favorite spot, not the best location for the calm turquoise water like you have pictured above, but it is a place we spend a lot of time at since you get a bit of everything there.

If you want something a bit closer than the Maldives then look into Bali.

So pretty! I'd love to go there sometime and stay in one of the huts over the water.

We're honeymooning in Hawaii! We stayed in St. Thomas when we got engaged and it was gorgeous there with the turqouise water! :)

I have traveled to a couple of islands in the Caribbean and South East Asia and so far my favorite has been Rottnest Island in Western Australia, but I guess is not that romantic. The Andaman White Beach Resort in Phuket (Thailand) is perfect for a honeymoon as well as Parrot Cay in Turks and Caicos ;)

You can't go wrong anywhere in the Caribbean and believe it or not there are a lot of beaches in Florida with lovely turquoise water.

The Keys (Isla Morada and Key West), St. Kitts, Cozumel, Grand Cayman. Gorgeous water!

Exquisite indeed!

Take a look at Petit St. Vincent. http://www.psvresort.com/

Near the Grenadines, the private island has only 22 cottages, with no keys!

Cozumel, Mexico! A teeny-tiny island off the coast of Cancun. The most gorgeous turquoise water I've ever seen!

Akumal, Mexico; about an hour south of Cancun and the beaches are protected by reefs. Gorgeous!

Wow. Gorgeous! I actually live in FL and Siesta Key has some pretty turquoise water :)

That would be a great place for a honeymoon.

We went to Puerto Rico a few years ago. The water there was gorgeous, and the snorkeling was so much fun.

We honeymooned in Negril, JA ( at the Couples resort) and absolutely LOVED it. I really recommend it! We were actually just talking about going back for our one year anniversary.

I have been all over the Caribbean and yes there is turquoise water everywhere! However, the most beautiful turquoise clear water I have ever seen was in Bora Bora. It just doesn't get any better!! Hoping to go back some day!

PS. I share your obsession with Turquoise and enjoy your blog.

Hello from cold Milano!
I cannot recommend enough the beautiful island of Mauritius! Amazing waters but also a great place to visit, large island and awesome hills and plantations in the inland parts. I was at Le Canonnier, wonderful location but rooms were a bit plain decoration-wise ;)

Also fascinating is Le Morne peninsula on the west coast of the island.
Big hug!

I agree that just about anywhere in the Caribbean has gorgeous clear water but we enjoyed the more exotic Canary Islands, specifically Tenerife. Calm, beautiful bays with sandy beaches everywhere, but the interior is rocky and rugged. We were there to be lazy and we certainly were!

My husband is from Western Australia. We visit every couple of years. It is a stunning place with some of the most BEAUTIFUL BLUE SKIES AND TURQUOISE WATER. Plus, the Australian people are some of the nicest you'll ever meet! It makes the long flight well worth it.

St Barthelemy is perfect a for honeymooners, lovely, laid back, delicious food, fun boho boutiques, fantastic beaches....spring is a great time on the island because the crazy holidays celeb/yacht scene is over and prices are reasonable

We've already been married 34 years...but a few years ago I saw the most aqua waters in Roatan just off Honduras. The snorkling was fabulous. Your pictured resort is waaay fancier though. Have fun dreaming and finding your place!

Belize, Grand Cayman or Cozumel. Although my sister said Barbados and Margarita Island were equally fabulous.

Erin: I've been diving for 30 years and have travelled all over the world doing it, so I know water. I would suggest: Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, or Cozumel. All haved stunning crystal-clear water over white sand which is how the truest turquoise is produced. And they're all easily accessible and not too pricey, so they're a good choice for a honeymoon. I mean you don't want to spend all your time and money on the plane ride. For fantasy however: www.wakatobi.com

Have fun choosing!

Hi Erin,

You know my heart is in St. John USVI, I loved it more than Kauai. although Kauai is pretty spectacular. Tough choice but anywhere in the virgin islands or the british virgin islands is unbelievable and super turquoise. Plus it is exotic but still part of the US.

BELIZE! My husband and I honeymooned there in August and we are obsessed. We absolutely did not want to stay at a commercial resort like Sandals or Couples and Belize turned out to be the perfect alternative. We stay at a place called Tranquility Bay on Ambergris key. The water is soooo gorgeous, and you can literally walk out of your cabana straight into the ocean in about 15 steps. I can't say enough good things about the resort or Belize in general. I did a blog post on it if you want to check it out!

Moorea, French Polynesia (Tahiti)...the turquoise waters will blow you away! We had an over-water bungalow so we could see the brilliant water through the floor, along with the octopus who had found a home there. So wonderful...cant' recommend it enough.

Erin, I am having the roughest day at work, and this picture made me smile! I SO want to be there right now!

I can recommend Magen's Bay, St. Thomas, USVI. The water is not only turquoise but its crystal clear, and its as warm as bath water in the summer time. Seriously the best ocean swimming! No surf though - a good place for that is Tavarua in Fiji, but the waves get huge (good for experienced surfers, not so for beginners)!

Loved the Maldives but it is a haul, we were close-living in Sri Lanka...
Fiji is also amazing, but again, a LONG way for a honeymoon.
For a closer trip, I'd recommed:
The Lady Hamilton in Montego Bay Jamaica it was very nice, were just there in June
La Amada Hotel & Spa in Playa Mujeres, Mexico was AMAZING, went there for our 4 year Anniversary in November, spa was out of this world and the food was stellar
We did St. Lucia for our honeymoon and loved it, stayed at The Jalousie Plantation and really enjoyed it as well
Belize and Guatamala are also beautiful and Costa Rica is pretty awesome too.
So many great places to choose!!
Enjoy that turquoise water!

Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos! There is a reason it is consistently rated one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Baby powder like sand + corals reefs a mile or so from shore = beautiful turquoise calm water. We could see down at least 30 feet from the boat.

The key is finding an island that has calm water so the bottom doesn't get drudged up.

The island of Ischia, off the coast of Naples, Italy) is absolutely beautiful! And not well-known in America. You should for sure consider it... and from there, you can go to the island of Capri which of course has the Blue Grotto with its world-famous gorgeous turquoise water!

Bad news is that there are no tourist accommodations. We arrived there via cruiseship. I know that wasn't what you asked but it does have required turquoise water.

I live in the British Virgin Islands and our water is the perfect shade of Turquoise here! My husband and I are expats from the US. If you're looking for something adventurous, you could always charter either a captained yacht from the Moorings or bareboat (which means your new husband would be the captain!) In the BVI, you can easily sail all of the islands in a week's time because they're so close!

I was able to go to Bermuda once and the water was so turquoise that I cupped my hands in the water and lifted it towards my face and it stayed that color in my hands! Beautiful

No place else on earth, literally, spells out Turquoise more so than Turks and Caicos Islands. Even the bases of the clouds turn a pale aqua from the reflection of the sea! The very first resort to come to the islands, Club Med in the 1980's, swiftly named their new village "Turkoise." The moment one sails into that ocean (preferably on an oh-so-romantic Beluga charter) and is completely surrounded by that vibrant, crystal clear color, it takes the breath away. It certainly did mine seven years ago, and I simply decided to stay and make it home. www.pepperandpikey.blogspot.com

Anguilla! It's in the British West Indies and is so beautiful and peaceful. PERFECT honeymoon location. My husband and I honeymooned there last May and it was amazing. We stayed at the CuisinArt Resort (yep, you read that right - CuisinArt...they grow their own produce!) and it was fantastic. We can't wait to go back!

We are going to Zanzibar for our honeymoon in January. It is an island off the coast of Tanzania...a far way to travel, but amazing culture and beautiful place. Stone Town has a European feel, and the architecture has an Arab influence... a unique place. Can't wait to be there!

I have to agree with Carrie, Anguilla, which is a short ferry ride from St. Martin has AMAZING turquoise water. I actually kept running up and down the beach in the water because I needed to splash in all of the different shades of turquoise (my husband is the only one who truly understands this quirk of mine). Turks & Caicos also has unbelievable turquoise water.

Bora Bora all the way! We were just on our honeymoon there last month. The InterContinental Resort and Thalasso Spa was the most azaming place! Just be ready though, if you go there no other vacation will ever compare.

I live in western australia and I have to say our beaches are amazing. I would suggest you google manuel towers bed and breakfast. It is the most amazing B and B and it is literally across the street from the ocean. My husband and i went there for a 2'day escape from the kids and I could have spent the whole two days in the water or soaking up the beauty of the b&b's gardens.

How about Playa del Carmen, is near Cancun and near Playa del Carmen is TULUM (a seriously turqoise archeological paradise you can stay at Playa del Carmen and visit Tulum). Also try on searching images for the Holbox Island, I´ve heard is a beautifull corner for honeymooners ;).

We honeymooned in Curacao. It's a gorgeous mix of Caribbean turquoise waters, relaxation and little bit of urban city in the capital, Willemstad. Willemstad features the picturesque row of colorful buildings on the waterfront, including turquoise. The north end of the island is more secluded with all the turquoise waters you want.

Susanne [Snusans inredningsblogg] said...

My absolute favourite place with turquoise water is the Maldives. Absolutely beautiful! You should definitely go there!

We have been to 32 islands in the Caribbean. I believe St. John, Anguilla, Antigua (Carib side rather than Pacific), and the baths of Virgin Gorda near Little Dix Bay are the most beautiful waters ANYWHERE, They are the top of the 32!
