Cayo Espanto

If it wasn't for the internet, I'd never know that places like this exist. That's good and bad, because now I want to go. REALLY bad. But alas, my blogger's budget just doesn't allow for tropical vacations on private islands. Cayo Espanto, located in the western Caribbean off the coast of Belize, is a four-acre private-island resort with only five villas and one over-water bungalow. Each private villa has its own covered deck and freshwater plunge pool, in addition to its own pier and chaise lounges. But my favorite amenity? The spectacular views of the turquoise waters. Just seeing the photographs make me happy. And that's good. Thanks, Internet. :)

I am hopeful you will get to see these turquoise waters, I think they are calling you. this is a great way to start off the week. I dream of having a bedroom that opens up to the sea, I can almost smell the salt in the air.

Gorgeous how the blue shutters reference the stunning blue water, as does the green tiles on the pool...picks up on the green tones of the water. Stunning. I could happily spend some time here! Janell

Holy moly! I had settled into my morning routine when that very first photo jolted me awake - wow, how stunning.

Alas, I will not be on any private islands either. But thanks to your lovely posts Erin, we can dream.

My husband and I went here for our honeymoon ten years ago this month. I dream of it often and hope to return one day. We went when they first opened and before the rates increased. It was beautiful and relaxing and we even had our own butler. Our villa was the first two photos you shared. I highly recommend going and hope you get to visit one day!

Erin, I don't know whether to thank you or slap you!
This is a TRULY amazing place but undoubtedly only accessible for mere mortals such as myself after a huge lottery win, unexpected inheritance or some other gift of serendipity.
A sincere thank you for your lovely blog though,
Felicity

we were supposed to stay there for our honeymoon in Aug. 2007 but were evacuated from Belize by Hurricane Dean. We never even stepped foot on Cayo! What a shame! It's a gorgeous in person as it is in pictures. We were able to see it from the plane as we flew back to Houston :(
