Turquoise Country Bedroom

I love the quietness this photograph taken by Björn Wallander evokes. This 1859 home belongs to Amy Hamilton, and was featured in the Summer 2007 issue of O at Home. Amy and her husband rescued the farmhouse located on six acres of central Ohio farmland. The dilapidated cottage didn't even have running water until 1985!

Love the mood of the room and, of course, the color, but I don't think I will ever understand distressed paint. Can someone explain it please.
